Permissive Tax Exemption Package

The District of Hope may provide permissive tax exemptions to eligible organizations that deliver meaningful benefits to the community. This program allows Council to support organizations that enhance quality of life through social, cultural, recreational, charitable, educational, heritage, or community-based services.

Permissive tax exemptions are granted at Council's discretion and may be approved in full, in part, or not at all, in accordance with District policy and applicable legislation.

BEFORE YOU APPLY

Before submitting your application, please consider the following:

  • Confirm that your organization meets the eligibility requirements outlined in the Permissive Tax Exemption Policy.

  • Review the property use and community benefit criteria.

  • Gather all required supporting documentation.

  • Ensure all District fees, charges, and accounts associated with the property are current.

  • Submit your application before the annual deadline.

ELIGIBILITY

Applications may be considered from eligible organizations such as:

  • Non-profit organizations

  • Charitable or philanthropic organizations

  • Athletic or service clubs and associations

  • Care facilities or licensed private hospitals

  • Organizations delivering services in partnership with the District

  • Other qualifying entities permitted under the Community Charter

To be considered, the organization's use of the property must demonstrate a clear benefit to the community.

Applications are reviewed annually as part of the District's financial planning process. Supporting documentation may include financial statements, property ownership or lease information, details regarding programs and services, information about community benefit, and disclosure of any third-party use of the property.

Applications must be submitted by July 30 in the year prior to the taxation year for which the exemption is requested.
