FOI Review & Response Process

Once your FOI request has been received, the District will acknowledge receipt and begin reviewing and locating any responsive records. In some cases, staff may contact you to clarify or narrow the scope of your request to help ensure the records can be located and processed as efficiently as possible.

Depending on the nature of the request, the District may not have custody or control of the records being sought. If no responsive records are found, or if another public body may be responsible for the records, you will be notified in writing and may be directed to the appropriate organization.

Under the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), the District has up to 30 business days to respond to a request. Every effort will be made to provide a response as quickly as possible. In certain circumstances, such as requests involving a large volume of records or complex review requirements, the District may extend the response period as permitted under the Act. Applicants will be notified if an extension is required.
